Channel 9's Kenneth Craig learned that the affair was exposed by the wife of Officer Bruce Portmess.
She wrote a letter exposing the affair, and handed over a CD she said she discovered that contained graphic pictures of her husband and another officer.
The two officers are accused of carrying on the sexual affair while on duty.
"What you do in your own time is your business, but it's just shocking to me," resident Debbie Gurba said.
Portmess admitted in writing that the affair with Cpl. Lauren Cashner took place while on duty, and secretly over the course of two years.
Portmess said "It was regular practice for us, and we would also exchange messages, as well as sexual pictures while working."
"We raise our children, that there are consequences to everything. So you're free to do what you want to do, but be prepared to live with the consequences," Gurba said.
Portmess was fired following an internal investigation and Cashner abruptly resigned.
Cashner later denied that the sex happened on duty.
Now the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is looking into the case and is recommending Portmess' law enforcement certification be suspended. They have yet to make a recommendation on Cashner's certification.
An FDLE hearing about Portmess and his certification is scheduled for May.
In a letter, Portmess said he was ashamed for what he did and apologized.
Because neither officer had been with the department long enough to be vested, they will not be eligible to collect pensions from the department.
